Older furniture is not a category of object so much as a set of habits. Entries filed here deal with reading construction, judging what a piece has been through, and deciding what to change and what to leave alone.

Mid-century case goods and chairs turn up most often, because they were built in large numbers and because their thin sections and oil finishes reward attention. The same reading applies to anything with a joint and a surface.
